Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Award recipients

It is with great pleasure that we announce Kiersten C, a Year 4 student at BCC, as the runner up in the Lower Primary section of the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards annual national poetry competition with her poem ‘Poppies’.

Kiersten received $150 in prize money, a collection of books and national promotion of her work. Her poem features in the National Presentation booklet sent out to all participating schools around the country, and in the 2015 Anthology. Andrew Leigh MP presented all students with certificates at a special Junior School assembly organised by Mrs Jefferys. Following this award recipients enjoyed morning tea in the Café.

Notes for the BCC Anne Moreton Poetry Competition have been sent home. We encourage all students to participate and be a “poet”. Deadline for our poetry competition is Friday 25 September. Please email poems to: bcc@bcc.act.edu.au and give a hard copy to their BCC literacy teacher.
